What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)?
Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy is the administration of pure oxygen at high pressure for therapeutic purposes. It is done in specially designed hyperbaric chambers that permit the delivery of 100% oxygen at higher than atmospheric ambient pressure.
This additional oxygen in solution meets tissue needs and plays an important role in the physiology of wound healing and other medical conditions.
Patient Guide
- Only 100% cotton clothing is allowed in the chamber. We will provide cotton scrubs for you to change into. No shoes are allowed in the chamber.
- Remove any metal objects and do not bring any electrical devices or prohibited items.
- Patients need to have a meal at least 2 hours prior to treatment.
- Upon entering the chamber, try to position yourself and get comfortable.
- During the HBOT treatment phases, you will experience a feeling of ‘fullness’ in your ears, similar to descending in an airplane as it changes altitude. These periods last 5 to 10 minutes to allow for a safe, comfortable transition in atmospheric pressure. You are required to equalize your ears as the pressure increases.
- A trained technician will be present for communication at all times to coach and assist patients.
- Each therapy session will last from 60 to 90 minutes. During the therapy session, patients can:
- Watch entertainment (which is located outside of the hyperbaric chamber)
- Listen to music from the chamber’s entertainment system
- Read
- Nap
- Please be informed that the technician will screen and limit items brought into the chamber.
